This presentation is designed to help citizens of Baltimore County and the State of Maryland to learn the history of the forty historic African-American communities in Baltimore County, Maryland. A map reflecting the location of these designated historic communities in included. At the conclusion, Mr. Diggs of the Diggs-Johnson Museum will answer questions and lead discussion.

Louis S. Diggs is a writer and historian who has championed the study and sharing of African-American history in Baltimore County for over 25 years. After serving in the Korean War, he worked in the DC public schools for 19 years before retiring. He was inspired by his work as a substitute teacher at Catonsville High School to chronicle and share Baltimore County African-American history. Beginning in 1995, he has published 13 books on the subject. He has been honored by many groups, including the State of Maryland. In 2016, Baltimore County established the Louis S. Diggs Award in honor of his work preserving African American History in Baltimore County.
