Texas Quarry Tour

Thursday, October 17, from 10 to 11:30 am

Trevor Swart

Martin Marietta's Texas Quarry located in Cockeysville, Maryland is one of the most spectacular hidden gemstones in all of Baltimore County. Currently spanning over one mile North to South and over half a mile East to West, the first written records of mining at this location were in 1802 by a group of Irish Immigrants. Visiting the Texas Quarry, you will get the opportunity to see where the stone used to construct the George Washington Monument in Baltimore came from, the stone leading up to the Capitol Building in Annapolis came from, some of the stone for the portico and spires at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City as well as where some (not all) of the stone used in the erection of The Washington Monument in Washington, D.C. came from. The visual tour that is presented will discuss both historical significance as well as operational excellence while getting the opportunity to watch an active mine in operation from a scenic overlook. The visual tour is stationed only at the scenic overlook on a solid concrete pad allowing visitors to view all aspects of every day operations at the Texas Quarry. This tour takes around 1 ½ hours. Visitors are encouraged to bring binoculars as well as a lawn chair if mobility and standing for long periods of time might be a challenge. Please join us for an adventure through time and experience in visiting the Texas Quarry.

FREE Registration REQUIRED. Very limited space. Your confirmation email will contain links to detailed driving directions and a liability waiver form.

In case of rain, we will make up the tour on Tuesday, October 29 at 10 am.

As a nonprofit we certainly appreciate any support you offer by joining as a member or making a donation. You can do this below if you choose.
